Appropriate, 2019
I designed these posters for a Second Stage production of Branden Jacobs Jenkins’ Appropriate in May of 2019.
The play takes place in the modern-day and follows a white family as they discover relics of their late relative’s racist past & xenophobic legacy.
Working closely with the set designer, I chose to collage an image of a bouquet of cotton plants with heavy, dark, gnarled roots, as a metaphor for the family’s obscured history.

Appropriate, Draft, 2019 — 11x17" We also considered this yellowed paper and bloody-red look, but ultimately, we decided to go all white in the final version to underline the themes discussed within the play.
