Prelude 2020: Sites of Revolution

In October 2020 I designed the web and social assets for CUNY Graduate Center’s annual theatre festival, Prelude.

Prelude 2020: Sites of Revolution was hosted online this year. The event brought together artists, activists, critics, and producers from New York City and beyond, to explore the many ways in which revolutions are taking place today.

Working alongside Full-Stack Web Developer, Lorena Ramirez-Lopez, I had about a month to draft, design, and compile all visual assets for the Prelude Festival’s website and social media promo.

The digital posters were inspired by designs by Emory Douglas, cyberspace aesthetics, and DIY printing techniques.

The organizers of Prelude wanted the festival to feel “handmade and accessible… like we are sharing some sort of communal space.“

Many of the elements on the site were interactive or click-and-draggable.

Arrows at the top of each page navigated between each of the rooms where shows were hosted, and viewers could press play to watch each show. See the digital mock-ups for the site above.

Almost all of the assets were digitally collaged in ProCreate, Photoshop, or Adobe Illustrator, except for the interactive icons below which were sourced from the web.

While the festival was live, we scattered Easter Eggs around the site via these small interactive icons that linked to hidden & exclusive content.
